I always enjoy taking an opportunity to break the routine and do things a little differently. Recently, I held a virtual, five-day experience for 25,000 people called The Greatness Challenge. It was such an honor to share my experience with everyone and help them realize their greatness.
Every day we held a Q&A session with the VIP members after the live challenge. Even though each session was only supposed to take an hour, sometimes sessions would last two to three times as long. During these sessions, I had the pleasure of talking to people about overcoming obstacles that get in the way of building their brands.
The things we shared impacted me so much that I knew I had to share them with you. Iโm sure all of you have times of struggle and relate to what my guests expressed to me at the event, so Iโm sure youโll get a lot of value from this post.
Iโm so excited to share these sessions with you! My guests today, Taz Falconer and Shannon Little, shared their struggles with realizing their potential and taking action to improve their positions.
We focused on overcoming the mindset of self-doubt and getting out of our own way to achieve greatness. I canโt wait to share what we talked about with you, so letโs get into it!
Overcome the Fear of Taking Action
During our Q&A session, Taz opened up about how she suffers from getting in her own way. She shared how it is easy for her to push herself to learn new things constantly, but when the time comes to turn that knowledge into action, she freezes.
โIโd like to ask you more about the psychology of getting out of your own way. I found that I love what youโre sharing [in The Greatness Challenge] and feel super inspired to take action. Then the next day reality kicks in, and Iโm still shy and so scared of judgment.โ โ Taz Falconer
I know the fear of judgment and taking action becomes a massive obstacle in the lives of so many people. When you analyze everything and get in your own way, it keeps you from reaching your goals.
Something that intrigued me about what Taz said was how her love of learning causes much of her anxiety. Instead of enabling her to become stronger and share her value with others, it shut down her ability to act:
โI love learning, โฆ [but] learning is so humbling. When you learn something, you realize how much you donโt know, and then youโre like, โOkay, I actually know nothing,โ which makes me feel like I shouldnโt try to put anything out there and should try to learn more.โ โ Taz Falconer
I completely understand where Taz is coming from. It’s simple to look something up on the internet and feel underqualified. The access we have to knowledge makes it easy to think, โThereโs no point in trying to take action because I will never know enough to master anything.โ But when you over-analyze your situation, you lose sight of your self-worth and become comfortable with inaction. Being content with inaction makes it impossible to make the moves needed to achieve greatness.
So, how do you find self-worth and get out of your own way? The answer is simple โ get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
